1.25 Billion chicken wing portions to be consumed Super Bowl weekend: NCC

Source: Americans to Consume 1.25 Billion Chicken Wings Super Bowl Weekend

The upcoming Super Bowl matchup between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots should hold chicken wing consumption steady with last year’s level, but only because Giants fans will out-eat their Patriot fan nemeses.

New Englanders and Patriots fans are 6 percent less likely than the national average to order chicken wings at a food service establishment, while fans of the New York Giants and those others in the Mid-Atlantic region are 24 percent more likely, according to the National Chicken Council, citing NPD Group data.

NCC predicted 100 million pounds of wings (1.25 billion wing portions) would be consumed during Super Bowl weekend, with about half ordered from restaurants and half purchased from retail stores. The game is played Feb. 5.

During 2012, the NCC estimates more than 3 billion pounds of wings (25 billion wing portions) will be sold.

Prices

Wholesale prices for chicken wings have jumped to record highs ahead of Super Bowl XLVI, bolstered by industry production cutbacks, USDA data show.

Wholesale wing prices in the Midwest ranged from $1.75 to $1.96 per pound for the week of Jan. 16 to Jan. 20. That’s up from an average price of $1.47 for the month of December, and more than double the price paid six months ago, according to USDA data

‘Beyond the Border’ fails to address ON and PQ speed limiters

December 13, 2011

While the new border agreement is extensive, one issue not addressed are our speed limiters. US truckers find it too difficult to comply with regulations North of the border, and Canadian trucks see unnecessarily higher costs when traveling at 65mph on US highways posted at 70-75mph.
